What’s in a name?
KENAUCRE is an abbreviation for my name, Ken Aucremanne. It’s something that I have used as an internet handle on various sites, including Twitter. Frankly, I’d rather use my full name but it’s fairly easy to misspell. Okay, so there are plenty of ways to misspell this too, but at least it’s five letters shorter and it makes for shorter tweets.
What is the point of this website?
It’s a New Years resolution to seriously document what knowledge I have accumulated on new media production. My hope is to make a reference guide for others to shorten the fairly steep learning curve involved with web fluency, audio and video production, and content creation.
Are you trying to be a guru or something?
Nope! There are no expert claims made here, I just want to share what I come across. I love to learn every day, and teaching is the greatest way to learn. Please tell me if I’m doing it wrong.
Have you actually done this “blogging thing” before?
Yes, but not for myself. I have purchased a couple dozen domains and built several websites on various topics, from cooking to metaphysics, religion, politics, home-based business, but allowed most of them to lapse prior to my military service. Some were decent, and some really sucked. Since then, I built a website for some dear friends and relatives, and sketched out a couple of other cyber properties, but have not actually done my own public-facing blog. This is my new home, do you like it?
What have you done?
I just finished my fifth college degree, thanks to the GI Bill. It’s a Masters of Arts in Strategic Communications from the School of Communications at American University in Washington DC. I have two bachelors degrees in marketing and entrepreneurship. I have two associates degrees in culinary arts and a foreign language.
I am a six-year veteran of the Navy, where I left as a first-class petty officer (E6). I worked some very intense missions and managed projects large and small. The Navy taught me a thousand lessons, but it’s good to be a civilian again.
Beyond all that, I’ve done product, branding, and instructional videos for the retail and academic worlds.
What are you doing now?
Currently, I’m working on a documentary film and starting a 501(c)3 nonprofit in the woodworking sector. I’m also making YouTube videos for a retailer, It’s the most fun I’ve had at work in at least a decade.
In February, I start a 3 month furniture-making program at North Bennet Street School in Boston. It’s a mix of personal and professional growth… but it’s mostly an opportunity to get out of my office for a while
What are your long-term goals. ?
That’s a fine question!
I plan to split my time between Washington, DC and my small-town home in West Virginia. My heart belongs in both places, so I’m actively developing opportunities that will accommodate this lifestyle.
