Overview:
Waggener Edstrom is a multi-award winning integrated communications agency with over 30 years’ experience, with more than 850 employees in 19 offices around the world. We are currently looking to hire an ambitious and dedicated Account Executive to join our Technology Team here in Johannesburg. As an Account Executive, you will be part of a dynamic team supporting some of the industries most innovative clients with integrated communications and storytelling.
The main focus is supporting the broader team on rolling out and executing client campaigns at a local and pan-EMEA level. The candidate will be one with a strong understanding of the South African media landscape, have experience of working on larger brands and across different geographies. A passion for working with clients and achieving outstanding results is imperative as is an interest in new technologies and how they impact communications, and very strong verbal and written communication skills. Successful candidates will have frequent direct client contact.
Responsibilities:
Influentials:
• Serve as day-to-day contact for 2nd and 3rd tier influentials.
• Monitor communication trends and apply to influential engagement.
• Influence and garner coverage through proactive negotiation.
• Provide in-depth analysis into event, announcement, campaign and coverage recaps.
• Serve as media industry expert & share learnings as appropriate.
• Manage reactive and seek out proactive media opportunities.
Client Service:
• Begin to anticipate strategic communication challenges, counsel clients & recommend solutions.
• Execution of tasks associated with projects. May lead/own certain aspects of the project.
• Partner on development and implementation of communication strategies, plans and launches that align with client’s business and marketing objectives. (Strategic comm. Plans, Q&A, talking points, messaging, fact sheets, OpEds, press releases).
• Provide timely analysis of coverage results & trends.
• Manage client meetings, agendas, and recaps.
Digital & Global:
• Each level applies a global lens to communication strategies.
• Digital strategies are an expected component of the agency’s strategic thinking, communications plans, and client/influential engagement; each level is expected to apply a digital mindset as part of how WE think about communication strategy.
People Leadership:
• Begin gaining management skills by leading projects and giving direction to team members to complete projects.
• Demonstrate personal leadership – take accountability for your role in projects, demonstrate flexibility and give/accept feedback generatively.
• Mentor and act as peer resource to junior staff, interns and new hires.
• Model agency values.
Qualifications:
• Significant experience in PR, preferably in an agency setting and/or within applicable industry.
• Strong presentation and research skills.
• Ability to drive client relationships, providing strategic and tactical advice, drafting and implementing plans, providing thoughtful analysis, identifying proactive opportunities, crafting briefing materials, tracking coverage
• Solid media relations experience
• Established business press editor and analyst relationships
• Has written and developed press materials
• English language skills, written and verbal
• Conducted press meetings
