The Weber Shandwick Tokyo office is currently seeking a Senior Vice President for its Consumer practice.
A Senior Vice President plays a critical role in determining the future and long-term success of Weber Shandwick. Senior Vice Presidents focus largely on business development and a wider scope of responsibilities relative to the staff and fiscal management of an account portfolio. A Senior Vice President is responsible for managing senior level client relationships and has regular exposure to client senior management. The Senior Vice President manages client revenue above JPY60M, with revenue balanced against responsibility in terms of complexity, scope, geography and business development. The Senior Vice President is also accountable for collaborating between practice areas within the Weber Shandwick organization,
Primary Responsibilities:
Performance Leadership
- Develop and maintain strong and consistent interpersonal relationships with senior clients
- Consult and develop programs based on social media strategy, blogger relations and viral initiatives, with an ability to develop digital communication programs that include actionable recommendations
- Demonstrate ability to develop strategies/creative platforms and concepts that simultaneously leverage traditional and social media for our clients
- oversee client service function for program planning, problem solving and strategic counsel, advise team as appropriate
- Ensure program schedule maintenance and ensure all deadlines are met
- Execute social networking, media campaigns and blogger outreach
- Demonstrate ability to oversee effective social media monitoring and measurement to uncover both business and communication insights and opportunities
- Develop quality standards for account teams and ensure client satisfaction relative to program development and execution
- Address any issues, troubleshoot problems and provide strategic counsel
- Proactively handle client problems and issues quickly and adeptly
- Compose plans to support the execution of digital and social media for clients
- Develop and deliver client presentations across all areas of client relationship, including program recommendations, industry trends and results reporting
- supervise all writing and editing and serve as final sign-off for all materials prior to distribution to client
- be a consumer of news -help identify media trends/ interests and what “works” with top media
- When appropriate, pitch media contacts (with whom the SVP has developed relationships with over the years)
- Ensure all information regarding marketing trends and client category is captured and shared with client and team on a consistent basis
- Understand business and cultural trends and issues
- Develop a point of view on social media and the digital landscape – specifically, how brands can approach social media to meet business objectives
- Understand key competitors and their business strategies
- Edit work and provide direction to ensure quality control
- Stay abreast of the latest trends in digital communications
Workplace Leadership
- Adhere to the IPG Code of Conduct in all business interactions, and conduct self in a manner that reflects the agency’s visions and values, at all times, in all forums
- Help to evolve and advocate for digital offerings within the agency and for clients
- Provide leadership, direction and guidance to account teams
- Directly supervise three to five (3-5) staff members and team cumulatively comprised of9-15 members
- Conduct timely performance appraisals for staff
- Seek opportunities and resources to help the team develop professionally and personally
- Direct internal teams to strategically employ a variety of research techniques to understand and analyze online data, providing insight around appropriate opportunities and actions for clients
- Delegate to others to allow them to take the lead and create shared responsibility
- Promote team cooperation within team through genuinely valuing their opinions and views of others
- Lead account teams effectively to ensure internalization of new media strategies and execution
- Develop and coach account teams for peak performance by providing timely, effective and appropriate feedback
- Work with peers to further the mission, goals and culture of the agency; create/lead committees devoted to a specific agency improvement during the course of a year
- Mentor individuals so that they are able to achieve their professional goals, including recommending training and development activities
- Identify, mentor and help build a base of digital expertise throughout the agency
- Serve as key contact for internal staff to address issues
- Ensure quality work from team in order to meet/ exceed client expectations
- Attend account reviews and staff meetings – provide ongoing communications and feedback
- Structure and staff new and existing project teams
- Ensure that account team members adhere to agency time reporting and financial guidelines
- Cultivate a professional reputation for self, team members and agency
Market Leadership
- Lead new business teams during the course of a year
- Assess new business leads
- Proactively pursue new business initiatives
- Participate in new business presentations for new business pitches during the course of a year
- Contribute to and deliver new digital business proposals
- Continually prospect new business opportunities by joining industry organizations, participating in speaking engagements and networking with others
- Help drive organic growth and cross-selling
- Drive organic growth of existing accounts through expanding the scope of the relationship and fee billings
- Prepare capabilities presentations for new and existing clients, as needed
- Set revenue and growth goals for existing accounts
Operational Leadership
- Manage overall project profitability and fiscal workings of accounts
- Manage account budget including staffing/OOPs oversight and review
- Possess the ability to manage large-scale (JPY10M and higher) interactive campaigns for clients
- Accurately develop budgets for proposed social media and inline marketing programs
- Ensure establishment of appropriate and profitable client budgets
- Track and modify team budgets on a mid-year and annual basis
- Minimize over servicing on accounts
- Track revenue forecast figures against actual figures
- Develop accurate estimates and adhere to approved funds; ensure client adherence to agreed budget and scope of work
- Review monthly financial and productivity reports
- Serves as agency signatory on all client invoices and follow-up on past due invoices
- Track time and expenses and ensure they are entered in a precise and timely manner
Strategic Leadership
- Provide leadership in the areas of total account management, media relations and the provision of strategic guidance and counsel while serving as senior agency representative
- Build thought leadership around trends in digital media and position agency as a leader in understanding and shaping the future of inline communication and social networking
- Strategize solutions quickly in times of crisis
- Possess superior strategic thinking abilities
- Identify new growth opportunities for the long term based on insights into the company, client, industry and economy
- Initiate timely proactive actions to gain improvements and create or enable growth in business results
- Define a clear vision for self and others by ensuring the growth message is understood by team
- Identify opportunities for agency/team learning and develop tools/suggestions to expand agency knowledge and understanding
- Clearly communicate the vision, goals and strategy for client development to the team
